Araña, Heart of the Spider

Legendary Creature — Spider Human Hero · {1}{R}{W} · Red/White commander

Whenever you attack, put a +1/+1 counter on target attacking creature. Whenever a modified creature you control deals combat damage to a player, exile the top card of your library. You may play that card this turn. (Equipment, Auras you control, and counters are modifications.)

What Araña, Heart of the Spider actually does

Read off the card by the same engine the Forge and Analyzer use — this is the mechanical classification, not a summary.

• Triggered ability · attackWhenever you attack, put a +1/+1 counter on target attacking creature.
• Triggered ability · deals_damageWhenever a modified creature you control deals combat damage to a player, exile the top card of your library. You may play that card this turn.

What an Araña, Heart of the Spider deck needs

Plays as combat trigger. What the commander asks of the other 99 — read from the card and checked by hand.

• cheap spells and lands to play off its impulse draw (exiled cards must be played that turn)
• creatures that grow with +1/+1 counters and counter payoffs (it spreads counters across your team)
• auras and equipment worth moving, and bodies to carry them (its text attaches or counts them)
• many cheap evasive attackers and team evasion (every creature that connects triggers it)
• a wide board that attacks every turn (the trigger fires on the attack)

The Araña, Heart of the Spider deck plan

The roles the Forge fills for this commander, and how many cards of each.

• 10× A 0-1 mana creature that reliably attacks UNBLOCKED — the cost the commander's ability consumes, and the only way it gets onto the battlefield
• 14× Equipment and Auras — the things a suit-up commander's trigger and plan are actually made of
• 14× Put +1/+1 counters on creatures you control, or multiply the ones already there
• 5× Make the commander connect — a body that never deals combat damage never triggers
• 5× Actually remove one problem permanent — preventing its damage is not removing it
• 9× Find the exact card the plan needs
• 1× Answer a whole board at once
• 7× Refill your hand
• 2× Keep a permanent you control alive through removal
