Birgi, God of Storytelling // Harnfel, Horn of Bounty

Legendary Creature — God // Legendary Artifact · {2}{R} {4}{R} · Red commander

Whenever you cast a spell, add {R}. Until end of turn, you don't lose this mana as steps and phases end. Creatures you control can boast twice during each of your turns rather than once. Discard a card: Exile the top two cards of your library. You may play those cards this turn.

What a Birgi, God of Storytelling // Harnfel, Horn of Bounty deck needs

Plays as spellslinger. What the commander asks of the other 99 — read from the card and checked by hand.

• looting and discard outlets (it rewards your own discards)
• cheap spells and lands to play off its impulse draw (exiled cards must be played that turn)
• boast creatures (it rewards the mechanic by name)
• cheap spells of any kind (its trigger fires on every cast)

The Birgi, God of Storytelling // Harnfel, Horn of Bounty deck plan

The roles the Forge fills for this commander, and how many cards of each.

• 18× A cheap spell of any kind — casts per turn are the engine for an unrestricted cast trigger
• 16× A creature that HAS the keyword the commander's trigger counts — a card that merely says the word is not one
• 10× Lets YOU discard on demand — looting, rummaging, discard costs — for a commander that rewards your own discards
• 5× Actually remove one problem permanent — preventing its damage is not removing it
• 9× Find the exact card the plan needs
• 1× Answer a whole board at once
• 7× Refill your hand
• 2× Keep a permanent you control alive through removal
• 11× Get ahead on mana
