Calix, Guided by Fate

Legendary Enchantment Creature — Human Druid · {1}{G}{W} · Green/White commander

Constellation — Whenever Calix or another enchantment you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. Whenever Calix or an enchanted creature you control deals combat damage to a player, you may create a token that's a copy of a nonlegendary enchantment you control. Do this only once each turn.

What Calix, Guided by Fate actually does

Read off the card by the same engine the Forge and Analyzer use — this is the mechanical classification, not a summary.

• Triggered ability · etbWhenever Calix or another enchantment you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
• Triggered ability · deals_damageWhenever Calix or an enchanted creature you control deals combat damage to a player, you may create a token that's a copy of a nonlegendary enchantment you control. Do this only once each turn.

What a Calix, Guided by Fate deck needs

Plays as copy engine. What the commander asks of the other 99 — read from the card and checked by hand.

• enchantments (its text counts them)
• creatures and permanents entering every turn — cheap bodies, blink and recursion (its trigger fires on each one)
• non-creature permanents worth copying (it copies them, not creatures)
• creatures that grow with +1/+1 counters and counter payoffs (it spreads counters across your team)
• auras and equipment worth moving, and bodies to carry them (its text attaches or counts them)
• token payoffs — anthems, sacrifice outlets and go-wide finishers (it makes tokens on repeat)
• evasion and protection for the commander (the trigger needs its combat damage to connect)

The Calix, Guided by Fate deck plan

The roles the Forge fills for this commander, and how many cards of each.

• 6× Make the commander connect — a body that never deals combat damage never triggers
• 22× A permanent of the exact NON-creature type the commander counts — artifacts for an artifact commander, enchantments for an enchantress
• 16× A permanent whose value is in its enter-the-battlefield trigger — the payload a blink deck reuses
• 14× Equipment and Auras — the things a suit-up commander's trigger and plan are actually made of
• 14× Put +1/+1 counters on creatures you control, or multiply the ones already there
• 12× Make creature tokens — a static anthem or a go-wide commander needs a board to be wide
• 6× Exile a permanent you control and return it — the button a value-ETB deck presses
• 4× A team pump that actually pumps tokens
• 5× Actually remove one problem permanent — preventing its damage is not removing it
